Personality:
Chivalrous. That word might explain almost, but not entirely of his personality. Outside looking very charismatic, gentle, and altruistic, Flynn isn't really a kind of simple person. He is actually a complex person when you get into the depth of his character. He used to be an angst young man, mentally unstable and tend to pressure himself with emotional burden. This is because he once believed that his dad, Finath Scifo, who happened to be a great and respectable knight disobeyed an order and because of that, his father died. Flynn then acknowledged his father's action as a fatal mistake that he should not repeat when he enters the Knights. He also once believed that his father died in vain. The social reaction and treatment he got after was bitter. And, he couldn’t cope with it. This is the cause that made his personality grew sour, temper and cold at some occasions back in his early time in the Knights. He eventually changed after a confrontation with a trickster named Gallista. During the event he was made to realize that his father's death wasn't in vain. Instead, he died in honor. This was said to Flynn by his Captain, Nylen, who died in their army investigation mission.
Flynn is an idealist. He holds tight into his ideal to change the Kingdom's corrupted government from the inside. He'd always believe that his hard work and patience to climb to the "top" will invest one day in the future. Having faith in that, he is able to cope with the hardships, as well as playing by the rules. As a knight Flynn is a gentle, calm and soft-spoken one. His talking manner is always polite and well structured. He's not likely to insult people out of nothing and would always maintain himself not to hurt other's feeling. When he is carrying his duty though, he will turn to be serious, Inquisitive, strict at the level he could get very stubborn and blinded by ideal of rules.
He is the true knight in shining armor. Most of the time he is honest and slightly naive. However, he is not immune to manipulation especially when it comes from someone above whom he trusted. He also has some dark traits within him. He would become a rather merciless person if one broke his patience or had gone too far crossing the line. Though, the condition would be averted after he won from said opponent. Of all people, He might be the only one considering to forgive them. Actually, Flynn would prefer to maintain peace. But strangely he seems to shine brightest in the battlefield and fights, even he once got a comment about how he looked happiest when he is in a battle. Still, you won't see him commencing a battle without purpose on his own intention.
Overall, Flynn is the type that stick into traditional method, technique and rules. But note that he will not 24/7 being so strict, conservationist and tense. In some daily occasions like when he visited a hot spring bath with his companions, Flynn has shown more of his relaxed and cheerful side while keeping his calm and reserved nature when in conversation. Although when it comes to jokes, romance related mockery and pranks, he'd come to be the last person to actually get the joke(talking about innocent). Nevertheless, eventually he'd often get himself involved in it.
He has durable patience and consideration. He might find himself concerning about something, however, he'd still rarely lost himself or being emotionally offensive. This does not mean that his anger cannot be triggered, and for a kind person with decent patience level, getting him into anger or even rage state might be really terrifying. Yuri Lowell certainly is one among those who has witnessed this trait of Flynn and he still remains the only person-in his circle of friends who would easily trigger his anger.
Flynn is brave. He would always love to help and never hesitate to give instant aid—even sacrifice for those he sworn to protect. This is why his friends--the Brave Vesperia were often being saved by him at the most crucial time. However, seemingly he doesn't really feel so delicate when someone else do that to him.
Although he never shows an interest in particular science or technology related, Flynn is an intellect person. Perhaps not genius but smart enough, assuming that in the knights, someone with his rank would often get associated with tactical planning works. Not when it comes to cooking subject, though. It seems Flynn likes to experiment when he got no manual or recipe book that led him. Thus as a result he'd likely produce a cat-in-the-bag food kind. When he follows the recipe book though, he might result a success in his dish. He is neat in working and loves cleanliness. In fact, there is chance you can trigger his anger by messing with his arranged things. And, this also implies that Flynn cares about the outside look. At least, judging from how good and delightful his dishes are despite of their calamity taste, and how cleanliness really matters for him too.
Skills and Abilities:
Ever since his childhood he has been taught and practiced sword play. This granted him beyond decent sword skills. And, he likely already mastered the techniques he once learned in his current rank. Not only that, he is also physically strong so he would still capable to fight even when he is unarmed. Yuri even stated that during their times together they were often doing sparring battles to improve their sword skills, and never he could win from Flynn. Also, one should take notice that he is often wearing his full armors. Yet, in battle he is able to move at a decent speed. He is a mighty opponent in a close range combat, thanks to these abilities. Aside of sword techniques, Flynn is still a fearsome enemy in a medium to long range combat. He is able to use some magic spells, mostly they are light element based, and offensive. There are few of his spells that is a combination of wind element with light. He also has fire element spells and healing spells.
The one noticeable offensive spell is his Divine Streak. It allows him to unleash and shoot horizontally a powerful beam within long range. This is the reason why he is also a formidable opponent within long ranged battle. This light beam also has some alternative ways to be shot vertically, by two different technique of strike spells. Aside of these, he has two most powerful moves (Known as Mystic Artes in the game). The Radiant Dragon Fang, which is a full light elemental energy blast in a form of dragons, and Enha hou Yokusho, Pretty much similar to Radiant Dragon Fang, only that its form is a phoenix and its element is fire.
Flynn can be considered as a knight that is closest to take role as a Paladin [source: tvtropes]. This makes sense, because aside of his destructive abilities, he got some tricks to play a defensive role. His defense status is high, and could grow even more higher with some support skills he has. He got some useful buffs to raise his status required for tanking/defense as well.
First Person Sample:
Greetings. First, I want to apologize if I was kind of late to deliver this. I was having a hard time thinking of what should I do to express how I actually feel precisely. Back then, I might be a bit harsh, but I didn't mean to break your faith. Simply that I don't want you to jump into conclusions of your own, lead your expectation high and leave just everything to me. So please quit the praise. You will dig a deep hole of disappointment on your own and I merely only help you avoid that. It's not that I don't respect you all.
This might sound selfish. Perhaps I am a bit over thinking about her safety. Yes, we both know how strong she is. But let's just say ... whether this is my own prejudice or the truth, to me she is still a young girl that needs protection. A shelter, physically or mentally. I don't mind if you have to throw me into dangers, just don't get her involved.
So, let me take a short conclusion. I disagree with your plan. Thank you for considering my words. If you don't, then I can't promise anymore that I won't interfere with your business. I have to break that promise.
Third Person Sample:
As he saw the building was already on fire, the best thing he could do is trying to make himself stay composed and cool headed, as his logic told him to. That was barely done, though. His widening eye pupils indicated his true emotions. If he could, he would barge in and make sure that everyone inside are safe.
Flynn shook his head. No, of course he couldn't do such reckless thing. He was aware of his rank, and that there are still duties need to be taken care of. No, he wasn't scared to risk and put his own life on the line to safe others, but he must consider his responsibilities. He turned back to the old woman who begged him to save her grandson. He felt sorry for her, but he has to decline the request and instead he will command some troops to cover his subordinates extinguish the fire.
"Ah,... Ma'am I am sorry, but I—"
His words stopped there as a flash of one man's image came across his mind. It was his father. And, slowly, not only his father, but also his former captain, Nylen. The last one to appear was Yuri, his best friend. It was like he was being reminded once more that his way of becoming a knight was never like that. He should have known better himself. Those people he looked up to would never abandon people in need of help, no matter what. So why did he hesitate? Why should he takes the opposite action?
He inhaled deeply and exchanged his doubtful face with his usual calm expression.
"Don't worry, ma'am. I'll try my best to rescue your grandson. Please, put your trust on me and wait at the safer place. It's too dangerous here" He said politely with a firm face and assuring smile.
The old woman's face turned brighter, as if her prayer has been answered. From that moment Flynn noted that he was taking the right action—no matter how that is probably logically wrong.
As he moved, he'd already expect that his subordinates would stop him doing something reckless. He knew that they won't like it if terrible things occur to him. Of course, with his determination he'd be hard to stop.
"Please, let go" He replied terse to them. "I am aware that this is dangerous. However, I couldn't sit idly when I actually able to do something—and someone is in need there." There was definitely strong, pressuring aura from his phrase that he made his subordinates silenced. They let go of him, and he stepped forward, firmly.
He paused and turned his head for some moments. He nodded to assure his subordinates with his confidence smile. Then he continued forward.
